COROZAL TOWN, Mon. Sept. 28, 2015–Two men were shot to death by an unknown gunman who ambushed them at about 10:30 Friday morning as they were working in a cane field in the San Comal area, located about three and a half miles northeast of Corozal Town.

Police say that Rojelio Rancharan, 42, a driver of Paraiso, an area of Corozal Town, and Victor Enrique  Cayuno, 58, a laborer of San Andres, Corozal District, were found lying face-up; each had been shot in the right side of the head.

Superintendent Dennis “Desho” Arnold, Commander of Corozal Police, said that at about 10:40 Friday morning, a 54-year-old man went to the police station and reported that shots were fired at him and his friends while they were working in the cane field in the San Comal area.

The man told police that they (three of them) were scattering fertilizer in the cane field when the killer came out of the bushes and fired at them. The man managed to escape the ambush, but his two friends were not so lucky.

Police say that the motive for the murders is not known, and robbery has been ruled out, because the two men had not been robbed. A wallet and a gold chain were found on one of the men, and a wallet was found on the other man.

Police say that one man has been detained so far, as the investigation continues into the double murder.
