Well, basketball activity is vibrant and active in the Belize City area, with two of the more eagerly anticipated tournaments, the over-35 and Interoffice Basketball, getting underway this past weekend.
In opening games of the Maxi-Basket (over-35) tournament played last Saturday on Birds Isle, it was BWS Bulls (1-0) winning 59-45 over Kulture (0-1) behind Omar “Stitchy” Gordon 18 pts and Carlton Young 11 pts, while for Kulture it was Wilfred “Chiki Blue” Nicholas and Lyndon Gibson scoring 9 pts each in the loss.
Game 2, which had Albert Hawks (1-0) going up against Early Morning Risers (0-1), unfortunately was decided by default, with the Hawks winning by the score of 20-0, as per FIBA guidelines, over the Risers. Obviously someone did not get the message out, and his or her action resulted in a participating team losing a game in a most undesirable fashion.
