Belize to participate in Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games

With just over three weeks to go until the opening of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Belize’s contingent is ready to represent in five sporting disciplines.

Belize Olympic & Commonwealth Games Association (BOCGA) will be taking a delegation made up of 11 athletes, 6 coaches/officials and the Chief of Mission, Mr. Patrick Henry.

Athletes and coaches/officials are:

ATHLETICS – Katy Sealy (Heptathlon); Kaina Martinez (100m & 200m); Mark Anderson (100m & 200m); Brandon Jones (Triple & Long Jump); Kenneth Medwood (400m Hurdles); Frederick Evans (Coach); Kay De-Vaughn (Official).

CYCLING – Giovanni Lovell (Road & Time Trial); Joel Borland (Road & Time Trial); Gregory Lovell (Road & Time Trial); Ron Vasquez (Road); Perry Gibson (Coach/Delegate).

SHOOTING – Andrew Wigmore (Men Trap); Andrew Castle (Coach).

TABLE TENNIS – Tyrone Tun (Men Singles); Arturo Vasquez (Coach/Delegate).

TRIATHLON – Kent Gabourel (Men Individual); Giovanni Alamilla (Coach/Delegate).

The XX Commonwealth Games is set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 3, where 70 nations will take part and compete in 17 different sporting disciplines. The Commonwealth Games are described as a multi-sport event and are held every four years.

Byron Pope was selected to represent Belize in cycling but unfortunately suffered an accident on June 28. We wish him a speedy recovery.
