Police say that a girl, 16, reported to them that she was raped by her 16-year-old boyfriend’s older brother, 21. The girl also told police that she had been engaging in sex with her boyfriend, the 16-year-old brother.

The two brothers were released on bail of $5,000 each on Friday after they were charged with sexual assault.

In the presence of his father, the 16-year-old was charged with unlawful carnal knowledge for engaging in sexual acts with his girlfriend, despite the fact that he and the girl are the same age, while his older brother, Rolando Espat, who was arrested on Wednesday, was charged with rape and grievous harm.

They were taken to the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where they were ordered to return to court on February 12.

According to police, the girl (in the company of her mother) reported that on June 14, she went to San Pedro, to the home of her boyfriend, where they had sex. She added that they had sex again on December 15.

The girl again went back to the home of her boyfriend in San Pedro on the 3rd of January, and while at the house waiting for him, his brother, Rolando, who was at home, forced her into his room and had sex with her without her consent.

When the girl returned home, she reported the rape to her mother, who lives in San Ignacio. Her mother then took her to the police station in that town, where they made a formal report on January 7.

The girl was examined by a gynecologist at the San Ignacio Hospital in the presence of her mother, and at the end of the examination, the doctor confirmed that the girl was carnally known, and certified the injuries to her private parts as grievous harm.
