Sports2nd Annual Boom Run 2016 a success

BURRELL BOOM, Tue. Mar. 1, 2016–The 2nd Annual Boom Run took place on Sunday, February 28, and included three races, namely: Boom Circle, 10K, and 15K.

All races started simultaneously at Castleton Entertainment Park in Burrell Boom Village at 6:00 a.m. and ended there.

The Boom Circle went east of the park, made a circle around the Methodist school, headed to Camp Oakley, and turned back to the park.

The 10 K went in the same route, but continued up 1.5 miles west of the turning point for the Boom Circle; and the 15 K went the same route, but continued 1.5 miles west of the end of the 10 K.

A total of 85 persons, male and female, registered for one or other of the races, with 52 completing their respective events. They came from the Police, Coast Guard, BDF, Wesley College, as well as from the Belize River Valley, Sandhill and Belize City.

Top finishers were:

15K: Female – 1st Jereen Chun, 2nd Shaurdi Reyes; Male – 1st Justin Baptist, 2nd Elio Tzub, 3rd Albert Davis.

10K: Female – 1st Rasheeda Cunningham, 2nd Loretta Garbutt, 3rd Jamie Usher; Male – 1st Calistro Saki, 2nd Frederick Gordon, Jr., 3rd Jerome Belisle.

Boom Circle: 1st Wendy Gillett, 2nd Marsha Wills, 3rd Ashanti Martin; Male – 1st Wallace Cucul, 2nd Ellise Flowers, 3rd Niall Gillett.

Prizes

1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals were given for all three races, courtesy of the Burrell Boom Village Council and Jex Trophies. 1st place also received gift packages, courtesy of Grace Kennedy Belize, Balderamos Arthurs LLP and Nan’s Sports Grill.

SMART was a major sponsor of the event. Other sponsors included: Belize Defense Force, Krem, Rodla Construction Ltd., Bowen and Bowen, Peace Corps Belize.

Peace Corps Belize and community helper Mrs. Anna Gillett gave free blood sugar and pressure tests.

All proceeds will help fund the Burrell Boom School Band.
