Police report that over $150,000 was stolen from the office of the North American International Company Limited (NAIC) at Yabra Plaza in the Commercial Free Zone Saturday afternoon.

Police have so far been unable to catch up with their three main suspects: the general manager of NAIC, Kan Shi Kun; a female cashier, Li Ting; and store manager Liang Jun.

The owner of NAIC, Kevin Singh, is out of the country, reportedly in Mainland China, but police tell us he is on his way back to Belize and will be questioned in connection with the incident.

NAIC owns a chain of stores in the Free Zone, managed by Kun. Liang Jun and the man who made the report, Zhung Jun, 28, (they are not related) manage two of the stores in the chain.

Zhung Jun discovered that the money was missing from a safe in his office around noon on Saturday, August 23. Some US $40,000 dollars were stolen, as well as 300,000 Mexican pesos ($58,272.55 Belize currency, at a rate of 5.15 pesos-1 Belize dollar), and BZ$15,000 for a total of BZ$153,272.55.

According to police, Zhung Jun then checked with office workers, who told him that earlier in the day Kan Shi Kun had asked a cashier, Yue He, for US$10,000, and left the premises, accompanied by Li Ting and Liang Jun.

The two men and woman have not been seen since, although police say they have recovered the vehicle that they used to leave the Free Zone.

Superintendent of Police and officer in charge of Corozal, Miguel Guzman, told Amandala this evening that so far as the company and the police know, none of the suspects have any family in Belize, and few friends, and that during their time working at the Free Zone they roomed together.

He could not say for how long they were working for Singh, but told us that prior to this incident the trio, Singh, and Zhung were all good friends.

Police could not tell us where the vehicle was found, and or to whom it belongs.
