BELIZE CITY, Mon. Jan. 15, 2018– No lives were lost to violence in Belize City over the weekend. However, there were two shooting incidents which have left three persons injured.

The first shooting incident occurred on Belize City’s Northside just before 9 o’clock on Friday night. Kareem Williams, 33, was standing at the corner of Cran and Mapp Streets when a man walked up to him and opened fire.

Three shots rang out, leaving Williams with injuries to the left thigh and left buttocks. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where he was treated and released hours later.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alejandro Cowo, police are seeking one suspect in connection with that shooting.

Cowo revealed that the other shooting incident occurred on Belize City’s Southside at around 9 o’clock on Sunday night. Darwin Beaton, 15, was socializing with Ian Williams, 20, on Armadillo Street when two men on a motorcycle rode up to them.

One of the men on the motorcycle pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the duo. Beaton, a high school student, was shot in the left leg while Williams was shot in the chin.

Beaton was treated and released last night while, Williams remains hospitalized in a stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).

According to ASP Cowo, two suspects are being sought in connection with this incident.

He further revealed that in both incidents, the motive for the shooting has not yet been established.
