Four Guatemalans have been remanded to the Belize Central Prison on charges of ammunition possession without a gun license until January next year, after they were busted with 8 live rounds during a search of their vehicle in the area of the Benque Western Border at about 11:30 Wednesday morning.
The four persons are Jorge Mario Najera Bolanos, 31; Eva Haydee Soto Espina, 33; Melvin Alfredo Posadas Ponciano, 30; and Luddyn Adolfo Fuentes Vasquez, 32, all from Guatemala City.
They were taken to the Benque Viejo Magistrate’s Court today and were remanded.
The newly formed unit of the Police Department known as the Mobile Interdiction Unit said that they were on mobile patrol in the area of the Benque Western Border about 11: 00 yesterday morning when they saw a Guatemalan vehicle clearing the border, and driving into the country.
They stopped the vehicle and conducted a random search for drugs and ammunition. Police said that the search resulted in the discovery of 8 live rounds in the glove compartment of the vehicle. The four persons travelling in the vehicle were all present during the search, and they were all arrested and taken to the Benque Police Station, where they were charged.
