BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 9, 2021– The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has congratulated five outstanding Belizean nurses who completed an 18-month Operating Room (ORN) Training program at the Chi-Mei Hospital in Taiwan.

The five nurses — Viviane Villas, Sheila Dominguez, Lusbei Can, Elvita Choco and Enelie Alfaro, commenced their training back in March 2020 after a Letter of Intent signed back in February 2019 laid the groundwork for them to receive formal training in General Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Otolaryngology and Neurosurgery.

A release from the Taiwanese Embassy notes that these nurses submitted all the monthly reports required of them and excelled in all the exams they took as part of the program. “According to Chi-Mei Hospital, their brilliant performances and diligent efforts were highly recognized by their instructors,” stated the release from the embassy.

In her remarks, H.E. Dr. Candice Pitts, the Ambassador of Belize to Taiwan, noted how proud Belize is of its 5 new graduates. She noted the hard work and sacrifices of the nurses and mentioned how valuable the country of Belize considers their future contributions to healthcare in Belize to be.

H.E. Pitts further expressed her gratitude to the Taiwanese embassy for their assistance. She said, “On Behalf of the government and country of Belize, I thank Taiwan for its steady contribution to regional and global health developments. Taiwan’s unwavering support for humanitarian causes such as helping to realize the World Health Organization’s vision of making health a fundamental right has been remarkable.”
