Amandala has confirmed reports that a prisoner, 17, escaped the Kolbe Foundation Central Prison at Hattieville Sunday afternoon by the simple expedient of walking past the guards and through the gate, to freedom.
Deputy Prison administrator Tahera Ahmad told us this evening that she has not been able to verify the major details of the incident today, as she was in meetings all day. However, she promised that official information would be available by tomorrow.
According to our sources, the prisoner pretended to be one of the many visitors to the prison during its Family Day activities held on Sunday afternoon. He and a family member simply walked past the guards (he was out of the Tango 5 building where he was incarcerated, and was meeting with family), who apparently thought he was a visitor.
At this point we do not know what his alleged crimes are, or how long he has been incarcerated, or whether he can be considered armed and/or dangerous.
