HeadlineAccused murderer given bail after being remanded for over 7 years

BELIZE CITY, Wed. June 20, 2018– Matthew Moore, 27, has been on remand since March 2011 for the murder of Andrew Moses, 29, which occurred on March 10 of that same year.

Reports were that Moses was on his way from work when he was chased by an armed man down Kraal Road, from the direction of Caesar Ridge Road, and that his attacker eventually caught up with him at the corner of Kraal Road and Ross Pen Road and shot him 8 times in the left side of the chest, abdomen, and leg.

About a month after Moses’ murder, Moore was arrested, taken to court and remanded to the Belize Central Prison, where he has been for more than 7 years.

Lately, there have been several murderers on remand who have requested bail. Moore decided to try his luck and on June 4, 2018, he applied for bail on the grounds that his right to a fair trial within a reasonable time had been breached.

Moore’s attorney, Oscar Selgado, successfully argued this point and he was granted bail of $25,000 by Justice Colin Williams.
