Alaska Airlines starts flights to Belize

HighlightsAlaska Airlines starts flights to Belize

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Nov.19, 2021 — On November 19, Alaska Airlines introduced flights to and from Belize, with flights from ports in both Seattle and Los Angeles. Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Hon. Anthony Mahler, stated, “We value our partnership with Alaska Airlines in providing such a vital connectivity for travelers from the West Coast interested in reinvigorating themselves and relaxing in our tropical jewel while immersing in a rich, unique cultural experience.”

Alaska Airlines will be landing in Belize four times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) from Los Angeles. Returning flights will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The flights to and from Seattle will be offered only during the winter season, which is a period during which there is increased tourist traffic as residents from the northern USA and Canada seek to evade the cold by visiting Belize. These seasonal flights are to run between November and May.

Since the new flights were introduced on the Belizean national holiday, Garifuna Settlement Day, which honors the arrival of the Garifuna people to Belize in 1802, visitors to Belize were greeted with the trademark Garifuna drumming. Inaugural ceremonies also took place at the Alaska Airlines hubs in Seattle and Santa Monica.

A group of 14 influencers arrived on the airline’s inaugural flight to Belize for an 8-night stay in Dangriga, Hopkins, and Placencia. Representatives from Teen Vogue, POPSUGAR, Huffington Post, InStyle, the Los Angeles Times, and the Washington Post visited to experience Belizean adventures and culture.
