Are we not humans?

FeaturesAre we not humans?

The two pictures below were taken from a video in the New York Times, which recorded the mass starvation of the children of Gaza, whose parents can comfort them with only words, not with food or water. In their supposed quest to get the rest of the hostages Hamas seized in the attack on Israel over a year ago freed, the Netanyahu government is now doing to Gazans what the Nazis did to them in Treblinka, Auschwitz, and all the other concentration camps during WWII. I had to avert my eyes from the television when some of these images came on. I was overwhelmed with nausea and horror. Can you imagine how these innocent children must feel? That these things are being televised while hundreds of vehicles are lined up outside Gaza, filled to the brim with food and medicine, being held up and denied entry by a government that obviously regards those suffering from illness and starvation as sub-humans?

This is 2025, folks. To see this kind of human rights abuse being allowed, not only in Gaza, but also in Sudan, is unconscionable! Where are all these holier than thou western leaders? Where is the uproar against the Zionists who should know better? Where is the outrage that was once there, but has been tempered by Trump’s election? Ever since Trump won, Netanyahu has been acting with reckless impunity, killing everyone who gets in his way. They could be aid workers or journalists, and he’s even trying to rid himself of those inside Israel who oppose him. Whether it’s the Supreme Court or his security chiefs or whomever. He does not feel that he has to answer to anyone, because he has Donald Trump’s backing. Wat a ting!

Anyone who speaks out against this racist, unfeeling administration in Israel is immediately branded as anti-Semitic. If you say one critical word about the way they operate, you become an anti-Semite. This is to stifle any opposition to their reckless and unforgivable campaign to rid Gaza of Palestinians. It is working. In the United States, Trump’s Justice Department is rounding up any foreign nationals, especially students, who dare to speak out against the genocide being perpetrated on Gazans. The press, institutions, universities have been silenced, either by threats of losing their grants that are government- subsidized, or maybe through even more ominous threats. They have been muzzled!

I am not an anti-Semite, I am not an anti-anything, except for the way these defenseless people are being slowly strangled as an excuse to free the hostages. I resent the fact that I have to even make such a statement. The release of the hostages could have been accomplished a long time ago, if not for the intransigence of both Hamas and Netanyahu. Netanyahu doesn’t want a deal because he knows what is waiting for him when this conflict abates. (I use the word “abates”, because it will never end.) He needs to be tried as a war criminal; not in Israel, but in The Hague, where at least justice has some semblance of being blind!

Maybe I’m too naive, but I will never understand how anyone can see all this suffering of innocent children and not be repulsed, and appalled. Something has to give. I hope it is not more innocent lives being destroyed.

Glen
