“August, look out! September, remember!” tough days ahead for Belizean football

Sports“August, look out! September, remember!” tough days ahead for Belizean football

After the U-20 debacle in El Salvador, where our national U-20 took 26 goals and scored none, on our way to last place and nary a point in the UNCAF U-20 Championships, Belize football fans need to gear up for some more tough days and weeks ahead, as our national club champions Belmopan Bandits and then our National “A” Team go head-on into football “fire.”

Belmopan Bandits

With their eyes on the FIFA World Club championship down the road, the upcoming CONCACAF Champions League will see national champion clubs giving their very best. Belize’s national champion Belmopan Bandits will play home and away series with Salvadoran champions Isidro Metapan and Mexican champions Leon. See the schedule below:

August 21 at FFB Stadium – Belmopan Bandits vs Isidro Metapan
August 27 at Estadio Leon (Mexico) – Leon vs Belmopan Bandits
September 18 at Estadio Cuscatlan (El Salvador) – Isidro Metapan vs Belmopan Bandits
September 24 at FFB Stadium – Belmopan Bandits vs Leon

National “A” Team

Then there is the Copa Centro Americana (Central American Cup) championship which takes place this year in the United States. Like a year ago, the Central American Cup decides 4 automatic UNCAF berths in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The 7 Central American teams have been separated into 2 groups, and Belize is in a group of 4 including Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. Only 2 from our group will make it, so none will be “pulling punches.” And our national team players were just called to camp this week. See our games schedule below:

September 3 at RFK Stadium (Washington, D.C.) – Honduras vs Belize
September 7 at Cotton Bowl (Dallas, TX) – Guatemala vs Belize
September 10 at BBVA Compass Stadium (Houston, TX) – El Salvador vs Belize
