BELIZE CITY, Fri. Apr. 16, 2021– On Friday, April 16, an auxiliary nurse was targeted and gunned down on Magazine Road sometime after 3:00 p.m. He was identified as 39-year-old Roman Requeña of Mahogany Heights village.

When the police arrived at the scene, they found Requeña’s lifeless body with apparent gunshot injuries. He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Police Department’s Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero told the media, “Information is that he was on [Magazine Road yard] when a male person came and fired shots at him, causing the fatal injuries.” Romero further said that they believe that Requeña was the intended target.

Investigations are currently underway, but thus far the police have not identified a motive for the shooting or a suspect. Requeña is not known to the police and had not made any reports of harassment or any threats to his life.

Investigators are scanning the area to determine if there are any surveillance systems that may have recorded footage that could help them identify a suspect.
