Bandits leads PLB standings after 4-1 win over Wagiya

SportsBandits leads PLB standings after 4-1 win over Wagiya

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Sept. 22, 2016–Only two Week 6 games were played mid-week on Tuesday night, as the two scheduled for Independence Day, Wednesday, were postponed “due to security concerns.” Down south at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence, home standing Placencia Assassins had to come from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against the visiting Verdes FC from Cayo. Darrel Myvette gave Verdes the early lead at the 6th minute, but Ashton Torres equalized at the 90th minute, and that’s how it ended. In the other game at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the hosts, Belmopan Bandits made a big score against their young visitors, Wagiya FC from Dangriga. Shaking the net for the Bandits were Ian “Yellow” Gaynair (42’ & 91’) and Brazilian Aloisio Teixeira (48’ & 66’), before Wagiya’s Evan Mariano replied (92’) to avoid the shutout.

Former standings leader FC Belize was not active in Week 6 due to the games postponement, and if apparent internal problems are not quickly addressed, they may find it difficult to regain the top spot. Hopefully, things can be ironed out in time for them to make the playoffs, as this is a team with good potential, and Belize City fans are yearning to witness some post-season action at the MCC.

Today, the PLB announced some changes to the day and times of a couple games scheduled for this weekend. The Freedom Fighters vs Belmopan Bandits game previously scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Toledo Union Field, has been moved up to Saturday night at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium instead; and the FC Belize vs Police United game, previously scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, will now start at 4:00 p.m. See revised schedule below:

Week 7 revised schedule:

Saturday, September 24
7:30 p.m. – Placencia Assassins vs BDF FC – Michael Ashcroft Stadium
7:30 p.m. – Freedom Fighters FC vs Belmopan Bandits FC – Isidoro Beaton Stadium

Sunday, September 25
3:30 p.m. – Verdes FC vs Orange Walk FC – Norman Broaster Stadium
