(AMANDALA Sports Ed. Note: That last race, the 1/2 Marathon [approximately 13.1 miles] was a monster match-up between two of our most outstanding distance runners in recent times. Albert Davis prevailed by 8 seconds over Leon O’Brien in this one. Congratulations to all! We especially look forward to the next clash between these two. Our runners do have some catching up to do, which can be aided by more regular races. The legendary Belize Olympian, Bob Lightburn, who still maintains his meat stall at the Queen Square/Finnegan Market, said he ran the 1/2 Marathon in 1963 in 1:15, and in 1965 in 1:13, his best time, which still stands as the Belizean record, though the Belize Athletics Association makes no mention of it.
