Knockout semifiinals were held on Saturday, November 26, in Hopkins Village for the Travel Belize Beach Soccer Cup 2022 competition, and the stage is now set for the championship finals which will also take place in Hopkins this coming Saturday, December 3.
The tournament, which was sponsored by the Football Federatioin of Belize in collaboration with the Belize Tourism Board, kicked off on October 8 in Hopkins with 6 teams participating, namely Corozal FC (Corozal), BDFA City Rookies (Belize City), Hopkins Ibayani (Hopkins), Griga United (Dangriga), Cayo Selection (Cayo) and Christ Warriors Seine Bight (Seine Bight). The 6 teams played a single round-robin regular tournament, travelliing to different venues weekly, including Placencia, Seine Bight and Hopkins, after which the top 4 teams advanced to the knockout semifinals this past weekend.
In the first semifinal on Saturday in Hopkins, Griga United prevailed, 3-2, over Christ Warriors Seine Bight. Evan Mariano (16’ & 30’) scored 2 and Daijon Daniels (45+3’) got the other goal for Griga, while both Seine Bight goals were by Jaheim Mena (11’ & 32’).
The other semifinal saw Hopkins Ibayani crush Corozal FC, 5-1, behind 2 goals from Wayne Ford (12’ & 25’) and 1 each from Isanie Valentine (28’), Deshann Nunez (30’) and James Martinez (33’); while Corozal’s only goal was by Devaney Tillett (17’).
The Travel Belize Beach Soccer Cup 2022 winds up where it started in Hopkins this Saturday, where the 3rd Place match will be followed by the championship final.
