SAN IGNACIO, Cayo District, Mon. Oct. 1, 2018– The San Ignacio & Santa Elena Basketball Association (SSBA) tipped off its twelfth annual basketball tournament on Friday night at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town.

This year’s BECOL/DIGINET tournament has teams in 6 divisions, which are:  Under 13, Under 17, Under 21, Females, Senior, and Over 35. So far, 26 teams have registered to participate in this year’s tournament, and the deadline to register a new team is this coming Friday, October 5. Interested teams can register with Mark O’Brien (627-8606) or Elvis “Tigre” Usher (605-3390), or they can message us on our San Ignacio and Santa Elena Basketball Association Facebook page.

Two games each were played on Friday and Saturday in the opening weekend.  Below are the box score summaries and schedule for upcoming games:

In the opener on Friday, (U-21) Talula Ballerz won, 76-52, over Falcons. For Talula Ballers – Darnell Oden 29 pts, Michael Hyde 11 pts, Raheem Crawford 10 pts, Denzel Nunez 10 pts; and for Falcons – Devon Harris 18 pts, Antwan McFadzean 12 pts, Golby Young 8 pts. And in the nightcap, (Seniors) Vipers, 76-52, over One Love. For Vipers – Kyron “Tut” Molina 33 pts, Johan Bermudez 12 pts, Shank Fuller 12 pts; and for One Love – Jamal Harris 15 pts, Elvis Usher 10 pts, Justin Ford 8 pts.

Game 1 on Saturday saw (U-13) Misfits blowing out St. Andrews School, 65-19. For Misfits – Zane Santiago 16 pts, Israel August 14 pts, Christian Baeza 9 pts; and for St. Andrews – James Wilson 12 pts. And in game 2, (U-17) Misfits prevailed, 47-42, over Sacred Heart College. For Misfits – Claborne Smalls 11 pts, Dreymond Casimiro 7 pts; and for Sacred Heart – Allan Gentle 16 pts, Jalen Lennan 8 pts.
