Belize City teen murdered in Ladyville

GeneralBelize City teen murdered in Ladyville

Ladyville, Belize District, Wed. Sept. 22, 2021– Today, Wednesday, September 22, a teen was murdered sometime before noon in Ladyville. At about 10:22 a.m., police officers went to an uninhabited location in the Vista Del Mar area, where they found the body of 15-year-old Niccanor Fermin, who resided at a Belize City address.

It has been reported that around 9:45 a.m. that morning, a car was seen approaching Fermin on Blue Marlin Drive. Shortly after, two gunshots were heard in the surrounding area — an apparent indication that Fermin was killed during a drive-by attempt. However, some members of the public, noting that he was not familiar with the scene in Ladyville, believe that he was taken to the site on Blue Marlin Drive to be killed and discarded.

Fermin’s body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. When interviewed by local reporters, Fermin’s mother indicated that he had refused to go to school and described him as “stubborn”. She also indicated that he had recently been detained by police when a Southside SOE was initially declared, but had been released.

The police continue to investigate the shooting.
