DENVER, COLORADO, USA. Fri. Nov. 12, 2021 — Through the Second Road Safety Project, the Government of Belize is taking steps to optimize road traffic safety. Back in July 2021, the Government, through the Ministry of Economic Development, procured 26 breathalyzers and 5,000 mouthpieces through a US$5,850,000 loan from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). Today, the Government of Belize, via the Government of Belize Press Office, announced that four officers had taken a trip to Denver, Colorado, to receive training that will enable them to effectively use the equipment.
LifeLoc Technologies facilitated the training. Ms. Dian Vasquez, Chief Transport Officer; Mr. Peter Williams, Operations Officer; and traffic wardens, Mr. Roman Martinez and Mr. Cesar Muschamp, participated in the sessions in Colorado and successfully became certified as Lifeloc Master Trainers.
The four officers learned how to discern cases in which there is reason to suspect that drivers might be intoxicated, how to use an FC 20BT breathalyzer, and how to gauge the sobriety levels of drivers, and they were also helped to understand the effects of alcohol and other drugs on the human body and were familiarized with the US-based Department of Transport’s policies, procedures, and statutes. These four officers who successfully completed the training will now have the capacity to train and certify other law enforcement personnel in the proper usage of the newly acquired equipment.
The efficient use of the breathalyzers and mouthpieces will enable law enforcement to bypass obtrusive and time-consuming alcohol consumption tests through efficient, on-site breathalyzer tests.
