BELIZE TELEMEDIA LTD AND HOME PROTECTOR/BRODIES BATTLE FOR THIS YEAR’S INTEROFFICE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

SportsBELIZE TELEMEDIA LTD AND HOME PROTECTOR/BRODIES BATTLE FOR THIS YEAR’S INTEROFFICE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Devon Lozano scored 24 pts and teammate Edward Thompson contributed 16 pts for Belize Telemedia Ltd (BTL), as they blew out the previously undefeated Belize City Council by the score of 71-47 last Friday in the 2007 Interoffice basketball Semi-Final round. The latter, who came into the game with a perfect record of (7-0), could not match the intensity and talent level of BTL, as they were soundly beaten in all facets of the game. Bernardo Bennett, their team leader, for most of the night was kept in check; as a matter of fact, things were so bad for the Council that their leading scorer, Kenroy Usher, could only muster a meager 11 pts. With the loss, City Council is now eliminated from post season play, making it the second consecutive year that they have been eliminated in the semi-final round. For BTL, they are now off to this year’s finals, and will now face Home Protector/Brodies, who in the earlier game were able to get past the defending champs, Tuff E Nuff, by the score of 57-54. Carlton Humes led Home Protector with 18 pts, followed by Keith James with 9 pts. The defending champs, who are now eliminated, were led by Samuel Martinez and Glenn Flowers with 10 pts each.

In game one of the Maxi Over-35 basketball Championship, apparently the clock struck midnight for the Cinderella Old Technical Boys, as they were humiliated by the score of 88-66, behind Albert’s Hawks’ Vince “Post” Estrada 30 pts and Charles “Dunk” Armstrong 23 pts. Old Technical Boys’ team leader, Maino “Skull” Bevans, was frustrated throughout the game by the Hawks’ defense, and in the closing minutes of the game was ejected, following an altercation with game officials. He, nevertheless, led his team in scoring with 15 pts, while Rodneil “Sheik” Armstrong totaled 13 pts.
