Belizean-American remanded for hotel murder of Caye Caulker man

HeadlineBelizean-American remanded for hotel murder of Caye Caulker man

SAN PEDRO, Ambergris Caye, Tues. Oct. 2, 2018– A police investigation into the brutal murder of Christopher Meighan, 21, a baker of Caye Caulker, led to the arrest of Belizean-American Lalman Richard Logan, 29.  Logan was arrested Friday evening at the Philip Goldson International Airport, while he was waiting to board a plane to fly out of the country.

Today, Logan was arraigned on a charge of murder at the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court, and remanded until December 6.

A second suspect in Meighan’s murder, Rufino Hernandez, a fisherman of San Mateo, San Pedro, was arrested in Belize City. He was returned to San Pedro, where he was jointly charged with Logan for Meighan’s murder. He awaits arraignment at the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court.

Information to us is that at about 9:20 on the night of Thursday, September 27, three men — Lalman Richard Logan, Christopher Meighan, and Rufino Hernandez — went into Room 14 in the Central Park Hotel in San Pedro.

At about 11:15 Friday morning, Meighan was found dead in the room. His throat had been slashed; and he had been stabbed in his abdomen and leg.

Police believe that Meighan was killed in the hotel room shortly after the men checked in, at about 9:20 that Thursday night. Security cameras at the hotel showed Logan and Hernandez leaving the room at about 9:35 p.m., and they did not return.

The manager of the hotel reported that Lalman Logan booked and paid for the hotel room for one night. He said that the checkout time was at 11:00 Friday morning, and when that hour passed and no one came out of the room to the front desk, to check out, the manager and a member of the hotel’s cleaning staff went to the room.

The manager reported that when they went to the room, they found the door ajar. He said the television was on, and the room was bloody and they saw the body. He immediately called police.
Police told us that the motive for the murder of Meighan is not yet known.
