BELIZE CITY, Thurs. June 10, 2021– A 27-year-old Belizean artist was shot last night while socializing at a house on Victoria Street, in Belize City.

Initial reports are that Belizean dancehall artist, John King was wounded when an armed man ran into a yard in the area and fired shots through the door of a house — one of which hit King. Before those shots were fired, the gunman had fired a first set of rounds, and this had caused some men in the area to run for safety in the yard. The assailant then followed the men and fired a series of shots, one of which injured King.

He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment. Unconfirmed reports are that he underwent surgery last night, following the incident.

Police are investigating this shooting, but a motive for the crime is not known at this time.

King recently released a music video and has produced several singles that were previously released. He is also a semi-pro football player.
