Belizean entertainer Berne Velasquez luckily escaped with his life after his car in which he was travelling erupted in flames.

Information to Amandala is that Berne, who was traveling from Corozal Town, pulled over on the roadside, about three miles from the Corozal Border, to which he was heading, to make a phone call. At that point, he saw smoke coming from under the bonnet of his vehicle, and then saw flames. Berne quickly took out what items he could from out of the burning car, and called the fire service, who responded quickly.

While Velasquez was able to get out of the vehicle unhurt and the Corozal Fire Service extinguished the flames, the complete front portion of the car, including the engine, the dash board and the front seats, was destroyed.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 Saturday morning.

Firemen said that the area under the car caught fire also, but it was quickly put out before it became a bush fire.
