HighlightsBert Tucker to be laid to rest this weekend

H.E. Adalbert Alexander Tucker, Belize’s Ambassador of Foreign Trade who recently passed away while receiving medical treatment in Jamaica, will be laid to rest this weekend, after an official memorial service to be held in Belize City.

Senator the Hon. Godwin Hulse, Leader of Government Business and Minister of Labour, Local Government, Rural Development and National Emergency Management, will deliver the official eulogy, while Tucker’s relatives will also offer reflections on his life, Arlette Gomez, public relations officer for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Amandala.

Ambassador Tucker passed away abruptly in Kingston, Jamaica on Thursday, April 10, 2014, after a short battle with prostate cancer, because his medical condition had greatly deteriorated.

His memorial is slated for Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Cathedral, Belize City.

Pallbearers of the Belize Defence Force will escort the body.

An interment will follow at Homeland Memorial Park, George Price Highway.

We understand that invitations to his funeral have been sent through all Belize’s overseas diplomatic missions, but no confirmation has yet been received on whether international guests will attend.

Tucker is a former United Nations advisor to several countries in the Caribbean and Africa.

He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and Harvard.

He was most noted in Belize for his work in the Belize River Valley through BELRIV — the Belize River Valley Development Program.
