BPFL teams add to rosters for stretch run!

SportsBPFL teams add to rosters for stretch run!

According to the rules of the Football Federation of Belize, the window of opportunity for transfers from league to league remains closed and won?t be opened until July 2005, so technically, several players who are currently active in the other leagues, and did not receive transfers or releases, may not see action until after July 2005 if they should choose to transfer then, to be able to qualify for the next campaign in the BPFL.

Many teams, if not all, are trying to beef up or cut, in preparation for the second half of the 2005 BPFL season. At press time, reliable sources revealed to Amandala that defending champs Big Bad Sagitun, are reportedly picking up their former Brazilian import, Moises Fernandez, a midfielder/defender who had previously played a season with Sagi.

The San Pedro Seahawks have picked up Brazilian import Ronaldo Silva, and have their eyes on Ernest ?Rasta? Wiltshire, who is yet to be cleared by both the ?A? League and BPFL. ?Rasta? had gained his release and transfer from the now-defunct Belmopan Printers of the ?A? League and sought to be signed by the Cayo Avengers; but, for unknown reasons the Avengers didn?t bite.

Anthony ?Willy-Bo? Bernard, who is now Yabra?s head coach, will be removed from the list of players to make space for Estevan ?Shugga? Perez. Wilhelm ?Pappy? White, Jr., who suffered severe career-ending injuries in a recent car accident, will also be removed from Kulture Yabra?s active list to allow Ryan Bradley and/or Alden Augustine to be activated for the City Lions. Wayne Wiltshire, who is a strong prospect for Yabra, has a 50/50 chance, according to our sources, of wearing a Kulture jersey. He too got a transfer from the ?A? League?s Valley Pride, but missed the transfer window.

Kremandala Lake has midfielder Stanley ?Rice? Robinson, Peter Jones and Earl Peters on their wish list. Except for ?Rice? Robinson, who played in the FFB?s ?A? Tournament, Jones and Peters may see action this Sunday, March 20, against the San Pedro Seahawks.

The two northernmost teams, Juventus of Orange Walk and the Calcutta Bulls of Corozal, are also reportedly interested in adding to their current roster. Juventus are seeking the services of Dean Banner, former Griga United defender Jerome ?JeJe? Serrano, and Frank Ferguson. They are supposedly getting Dean Flowers, an aggressive forward/striker, to join his brothers, Christopher and Oliver ?Lion Heart? Hendricks, in a Juventus jersey. Juventus also want Rudolph Flowers another deadly striker and former BPFL scoring champ, and defender Allan ?Toobus? Flowers, both of whom had a run with the ?Shugga? City squad, so they are quite familiar with the system. ?Toobus? Flowers and Rudolph Flowers, however, fall into the same category as Stanley ?Rice? Robinson – unconfirmed reports are suggesting that both played in the ?A? Tournament for Orange Walk Eagles F.C.

Meanwhile, the Calcutta Bulls are showing interest in picking up Nahum Rodriguez, the brother of starting Bulls goalkeeper, Giovanni Rodriguez, to strengthen their defenses, along with Sergio Villanueva, Amin Manzanero and Randy Casanova.

At press time, we were only able to confirm two players bound for the Cayo Avengers, and they are midfielder Denmark Casey and Freddy Cruz.

As for Print Belize Griga, one of the spots was left open after second year forward Thomas ?Hearns? Rodriguez suffered a season ending broken leg. It has been confirmed that Byron Duarte, Ivan Castillo, Owen Nolberto and Allen McLaughlyn have been registered and contract talks are pending. However, Belize selection defender Elroy Smith and ?Tipoo? Rodriguez, who both played for the Griga franchise last season, reportedly signed sometime last week and the final details of the contracts was still being negotiated. But they too could be smitten by the transfer and release bug, since they may not have been released and transferred from ?A? Tournament teams on time.
