GeneralBrindel Munnings dies 44 days after being shot

BELIZE CITY, Tues. Oct. 1, 2019– Brindel Munnings, 44, a laborer of Police Street, was shot at about 10:00 Saturday night, August 17, while riding through an alley that runs from the Inspiration Center to Police Street in the Lake Independence area of the city.

A gunman who waylaid Munnings shot him in the stomach and in the leg, and he was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical condition. He survived for 44 days, but died today in the living room of his house.

His wife said that she was with him up to about 3:00 this morning, sitting on the couch in their living room, and she went to sleep, but when she awoke at about 6:00 this morning, she saw him motionless in the chair.

During his treatment at the hospital his condition had improved, and as a result he was released, but later his condition took a turn for the worse.

An investigation into the shooting led to a minor, 17, of Belize City, who was arrested and charged with attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and dangerous grievous harm. The minor was arraigned at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court and is still remanded.

ASP Alejandro Cowo of the Police Department said that the shooting of Munnings by the youth was due to a misunderstanding over a bicycle. The minor will now be charged with Munnings’s murder.
