BELIZE CITY, Mon. Jan. 8, 2018– Popular taxi driver and known supporter of the United Democratic Party and regular, vocal caller to the government radio station’s morning talk show, Roy “Bullet” Craig, 76, also known as “Street Vibes,” was calm as he walked past court photographers this afternoon at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was taken by police to be arraigned on a single count of sexual assault.

Craig appeared before Magistrate Michelle Trapp and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

There was no objection from the court prosecutor Corporal Kennard Clark, to the offering of bail by the court to Craig and Magistrate Trapp released him on a bail of $5,000 plus one surety in the same amount.

Craig’s matter was adjourned to March 8, when he is expected back in court.

Craig was able to post bail and was released before the close of the court’s business day.

The allegation against Craig, who appeared unrepresented by an attorney, is that on Thursday, January 4, 2018 he placed his penis between the legs of a sixteen-year-old boy, and that his contact with the boy was sexual in nature, the charge said.

Police reported that “on 5th January, 2018 at 8:45 p.m., acting upon information received they visited Honey’s Hotel on Dolphin Drive in Belize City.”

Police said that, upon arrival, they met a 16-year-old male minor, who was in the company of Craig, a Belizean taxi driver of a Belize City address. Both of them were completely nude, said police in a press conference this morning in Belize City.

The minor reported to police that about 7:00 p.m., whilst walking home he saw Craig, who is also known as “Bullet”, standing beside a car, and as he was about to pass him, Craig held him by his shirt collar and asked him if he wanted to go to a hotel.

The police report said Craig pulled the minor “towards the front passenger side seat of the said car, they both got in the car, and, Craig stopped at an ATM, and made a further stop at [a] restaurant where he purchased some beers and thereafter drove to the hotel, where he paid for a room.”

Both Craig and the minor went to the assigned room where Craig drank some beers and offered some to the minor and later attempted to perform an unnatural act with the minor, but at that time, they were interrupted by a knock on the door by police.

On Saturday, Roy Craig was arrested and charged for the crime of sexual assault, police reported.

It is not exactly clear how Roy Craig got the nickname “Bullet.” In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s Craig lived in Harlem, New York, and used to make frequent trips to Belize. He was not just your regular Belizean coming home. Craig was a high roller back in those days and the rumor was that he had become a millionaire through hustling in the streets of New York.

At one point in time, he had actually invested a large amount of money in purchasing a large three-storey building at the corner of Mapp Street and Freetown Road that was a popular hotel named Crossroads Hotel.
