Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a Belize City resident whose bullet-ridden body was found off the side of the Burrell Boom-Hattieville Road on Tuesday night.
According to police, Burthen Garoy, 26, who was found lying face up on the right side of the road about 200 yards from a dumpsite, had sustained six gunshot wounds: one to the forehead, three to the upper back and two to the right shoulder.
Family members were not available this morning when Amandala visited Garoy’s residence in Taylor’s Alley, off Cemetery Road, but we understand that he was last seen alive in the City approximately an hour and twenty minutes prior to the discovery of his body, after giving his common-law wife money to buy food to cook, and then saying he was going out to the alley.
Police recovered four .45 caliber expended ACP shells in the area, but are yet to make any arrests.
Garoy was a shooting victim last July, when he was hit by a single bullet fired by an assailant on Glynn Street. But reportedly, he was not known to be a troublemaker or involved in the tension between rival gang bases criss-crossing the Mesopotamia and Queen’s Square divisions, where the George Street/Rocky Road and Trench/Taylor Alley bases call home.
Answers are not forthcoming, as yet, as to why Garoy was found about 15 miles from the Old Capital, after telling his wife that he was just stepping out a short distance from his home.
