BELIZE CITY, Thurs. May 13, 2021– It has been 14 long months since the sport of cycling was prohibited from having races due to the new laws of the country caused by the pandemic. Now that cycling is finally allowed, the C-Ray Cycling Club resumed with our Full Throttle Thursday Races, but this time on a new route.
This morning at 5:30, 42 cyclists from seven different categories were at the start/finish line on the airport road. From there, there was a lead-out to the John Smith road where they completed two laps. On the second lap, it was back to the airport road to head down to the finish line for a total of 22 miles, done in a time of 55:14 and averaging 23.8 mph.
The top 5 finishers overall were: 1st Giovanni Lovell, 2nd Joshua Fuller, 3rd Byron Pope, 4th Wasani Castro, and 5th Kenroy Gladden. Kaya Cattouse won the Women category, while Alicia Thompson was 2nd. Elwin Humes was the first Junior. Winning the Novice category was Stephen Smith. In the Masters A (35-44yrs) 1st place was Kenroy Gladden, 2nd Henry Moreira and 3rd Brandon Cattouse. Masters B (45-54yrs) 1st was Dwayne Wade, 2nd Gilroy Robinson and 3rd Fitzgerald Joseph. Masters C (55+yrs) 1st was Warren Coye, 2nd Santino Castillo and 3rd Barney Brown.
