3 brothers have been charged for murder and for chopping the victim’s father

Three brothers from Caledonia in the Corozal District are facing charges of murder and attempted murder following a bloody mêlée that occurred on Sunday night in that municipality when an ongoing family dispute escalated, resulting in the chopping death of one of the persons who were involved.

Last Sunday, May 25, at around 9:00 p.m., Eder Alcoser, 26, reportedly went to buy dog food at a Chinese grocery shop in Caledonia known as Mei Mei Store where he got into a verbal altercation with David Rosalez, 27, with whom his estranged girlfriend has been living for over a year.

The heated argument soon evolved into an all-out brawl when David’s brothers, Elias Rosalez, 31, and Perfecto Rosalez, Jr., 34, arrived at the location armed with machetes to assist their brother. The fight moved from in front of the shop to a nearby area up the street.

At that time, Alcoser’s father, Marcelo Alcoser, 51, arrived and reportedly tried to stop the fight; however, both father and son were allegedly chopped many times by the Rosalez brothers, one of whom was also chopped in the mêlée and had to be hospitalized.

When it was all over, Eder Alcoser had been chopped in the face, head, stomach and other parts of the body, while his father had been chopped near the knee and on the hand. Eder reportedly succumbed to his injuries at around 8:20 the following morning.

Police said that upon visiting the Corozal Community Hospital, they observed Eder Alcoser with a large cut wound on the left side of the abdomen, another in the left ribcage area, one in the head, a small cut on the chin and a large cut on the right forearm, which almost severed it.

His father, Marcelo, had two cuts on the right lower leg and a large cut on the left lower leg just below the knee cap, while David Rosalez, who was also admitted to the Corozal Community Hospital, was seen with a large cut wound on the right arm and on the left side of his forehead.

Marcelo Alcoser has since undergone surgery and is listed in a stable condition at the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk Town, and the body of Eder Alcoser was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where it awaits a post-mortem.

In the wake of the incident, Corozal police immediately arrested and charged brothers Elias, David and Perfecto Rosalez, Jr. for murder, one count of attempted murder and two counts of dangerous harm and the use of deadly means of harm; however, David Rosalez will be taken to court when he is discharged, as he remains under police guard at the Corozal Community Hospital.

The other two brothers, Elias and Perfecto, were arraigned at the Corozal Magistrate’s Court yesterday, after which they were remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

In the meanwhile, Acting Officer in Charge of the Corozal Police Formation, ASP Daniel Arzu, said that police are still trying to locate the murder weapons.
