SARTENEJA, Corozal District, Thurs. Aug. 22, 2019– Fifty-two cannabis seedlings, a number of cannabis plants in pots, and cannabis plants ranging from 1 foot to 6 feet tall were found by police officers who carried out an anti-drug operation at the home of Martin Meredith, 64, a Canadian now living in Sarteneja, on Monday.

All the plants were taken and deposited as exhibits, and Meredith was arrested and charged with drug cultivation and possession of a drug with intent to distribute to others.

Police said that on their arrival at his home, Meredith declared that he had cannabis and showed them some small plants, but when they searched his property, they found far greater quantities of cannabis plants.

Meredith was taken to the Corozal Magistrate’s Court today, where he appeared before Magistrate Ed Usher. He pled guilty to the offences and told the Magistrate that he uses the cannabis for his personal use, because he suffers
