Egbert ?Jack? Vernon, 25, charged with Princess jacking of $65,000

On July 24, 2005, the Princess Hotel and Casino was robbed when two masked men entered the premises after gaining entry by jumping a fence on the northern side of the compound and walking through a side gate near the pool, to the accounting section of the hotel.

The armed, masked men escaped with $65,000, said police, and not $80.000 had been reported over a week ago in Amandala.

Spanish Lookout oil well producing 500 barrels a day, says GOB

The Government of Belize and Belize Natural Energy Limited announced today that they have discovered substantial crude oil (unrefined petroleum) in Spanish Lookout, Cayo, Belize, though they have not been able to determine whether there is enough oil for commercial production.

Andre Cho, inspector of petroleum, Ministry of Natural Resources, informed the media that BNE began production testing in late July and discovered light crude oil (38 degrees API), which he described as ?the best oil you could have.?

Gerald Bahadur, 56, charged with carnal knowledge of child, 11

A Belize City resident, Gerald Bahadur, 56, an unemployed of #6621 Police Street, appeared in Courtroom #4 of the Belize City Magistrate?s Court, where he was charged with three counts of carnal knowledge and one count of aggravated assault on Monday, August 1.

GOB overspends $112 million in 2003/2004

Minister of Finance, Prime Minister Said Musa, this morning laid before the House of Representatives a bill to approve $112 million more in spending for the fiscal year which ended March 31, 2004?spending that had not been approved by the National Assembly.

The bill, titled Supplementary Appropriation 2003/2004, asks legislators to approve an additional $48.7 million more in spending in recurrent revenue, $23.6 million in Capital II and $39.9 million in capital III.

Police bust 50-year-old with 15-year-old in hotel room

On Monday, July 25, Carlos Guardado, 50, a businessman of San Felipe Village, Orange Walk District, appeared in the Orange Walk Magistrate?s Court, where he was charged with unlawful carnal knowledge.

Police were called by an anonymous caller, who had informed them that a man, accompanied by a very young girl, was seen entering one of the rooms of Juanita?s Guest House, located on Santa Ana Street, Orange Walk Town, on Monday, July 25.

Two charged with robbery of Income Tax Department

This morning, Kenroy Espinoza, 19, a laborer of #6 Hibiscus Street, and David Longsworth, 23, a clerk of the Income Tax Department, of Sittee Street, appeared in courtroom #1 of the Belize City Magistrate?s Court, where they were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

Espinoza was additionally charged with robbery.

San Pedro angry after watchman?s crowbar murder

A grieving family and friends mourn the loss of a loving father and husband, Antonio Almendarez, 50, who was brutally murdered early in the morning of Tuesday, July 26.

Antonio was originally from Libertad in the Corozal District, and worked as a security guard for Fido?s Restaurant and Bar, located on Barrier Reef Drive in San Pedro Town. He was on his shift, which ran from midnight, Monday night, to Tuesday, 7:00 p.m., when he was murdered.

Today, residents of San Francisco Street, Orange Walk Town, are terrified after four masked men entered the home of a single mother, a 56-year-old woman who is a domestic, and tied her up, along with her 8-year-old daughter, on Monday, July 18, around 2:00 a.m.

Amandala spoke with some residents of San Francisco Street, who requested anonymity because they feel that their lives would be threatened.

Celestino Zetina finally found ? stabbed and shot to death

This morning, five Belize City men were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate?s Court for the murder of Celestino Zetina, 33, a SEL supervisor and father of 8 who went missing on Sunday, July 10.

Zetina?s badly decomposed body was found on Tuesday morning, July 19, sometime around 10:30, hidden in the bush at Mile 3 ? on the Western Highway.

Pawpa and Floyd Brown remanded ? case adjourned to July 28

After being arrested for the purpose of extradition proceedings in the early morning of Friday, July 17, and taken to Magistrate?s Court on Monday afternoon, July 18, brothers Andrew ?Pawpa? Brown, 39, and Floyd Brown, referred to as ?Joswant Kenneth Brown? by the United States Government, were escorted today into the Chief Magistrate?s Court at 10:17 a.m. in handcuffs.

The hearing today should have determined whether Joswant Kenneth Brown and Floyd Brown were indeed one and the same person.
