An indictment of Kremandala and the Black Summit

The Editor AMANDALA

Dear Editor,

I have always been a strong supporter for more unity and activism among all Belizeans, particularly those of us descended, in various degrees, from former West Africans (Creole and Garifuna, to be specific) and Mayans. I believe in equal rights and justice for all Belizeans. Consequently, I was elated to hear of plans for a Black Summit. Leading up to the Summit, however, several connected parties started to indemnify themselves against offending other ethnic groups and civil organizations. That is when I began to fear that the Black Summit would be nothing more than an academic exercise attended mostly by Belizean Uncle Toms trying to feel good about themselves.

70 at Compre spells trouble for rural kids

The Editor Amandala

Sir,

Teachers at the Belmopan Comprehensive School have expressed an interest in upping the passing grade at Compre to 70%. The Compre brain trust has explained that the present passing grade, 50%, places Compre students at a disadvantage when they are seeking to matriculate to other high schools, to junior college, or to the University of Belize.

Anna tells police to ?get their act in place?

Dear Editor,

I am writing in compliance with the headlines of your newspaper for this week. I, as a Belizean, and I am sure many people feel as I do, am tired of all this police brutality. There are many complaints and many unknown cases of police brutality going on in Belize and there is no justice for the person being brutalized.
