The weight of inflation has been an ever-present and burdensome issue since the Covid-19 pandemic struck the nation, taking a toll on families countrywide, who have seen a significant increase in almost everything, especially fuel and goods.

And this week, the country is about to witness an additional increase, as the Belize Poultry Association (BPA) has announced a spike in the price of poultry by an estimated 12 cents.

According to the manager of BPA, Armando Cowo, the reason for this change is an unfortunate but necessary one, as it is due to the rising costs of raw material.

“Yes, prices are going up again by 8 to 12 [cents] depending on the area you live in. This adjustment is necessary as the prices of corn and other necessary minerals are not coming down. Hopefully, we get out of this inflation spiral this year,” says Cowo.

The increase in the price of poultry is to come into effect country-wide on Monday, March 27.
