General“Chonko” McGregor gets 10 years for attempting to break into neighbour’s home

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Feb. 16, 2018– Joel McGregor, 28, aka “Chonko,” a laborer of the Windmill area of Hattieville, was sentenced to 10 years in prison today by Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford after he pleaded guilty to attempted burglary and damage to property.

McGregor also was sentenced to 7 months imprisonment for damage to property, but he will only serve 10 years because the sentences (for burglary and damage to property) are to run concurrently.

The complainant, Kayesha Cole, 22, McGregor’s neighbor, reported to the police that at about 8:45 p.m. yesterday she was in her bedroom when she heard a loud bang. She said that when she looked through the window of her bungalow house she saw McGregor, dressed in black, staring at her.

She said she told McGregor to leave, otherwise she would call the police, and McGregor left. She did call the police, and when they arrived and examined the scene, they saw that McGregor had damaged one of the louvres of the bedroom window.

Cole told police that the window has a value of $250. McGregor has previous convictions for two thefts and one burglary. He was on probation when he attempted the break-in.
