Collision on pedestrian crossing in Santa Clara

GeneralCollision on pedestrian crossing in Santa Clara

Despite the frequent warnings and the urging of the police and the Traffic Department to drivers to drive carefully on the highways and to exercise caution, collisions continue to occur. In the most recent incident, a car slammed into the rear of an SUV when the SUV slowed down for a pedestrian crossing.

As a result, the SUV was damaged in the right rear area, and the car’s front portion and its right front bumper were damaged.

The incident occurred about 4:30 yesterday evening between Miles 70 and 71 in Santa Clara on the Philip Goldson Highway in Corozal.

The SUV was being driven by David Rejon, 41, of 5th Avenue, Corozal. The SUV, a 2006 Toyota Rav-4, L/P CZL-C-02890, was seen on the right hand side of the highway, with its front facing south and rear facing north – as it had been heading from Corozal Town towards Orange Walk.

The car, driven by Aaron Carl Arnold, 20, a firefighter of 1st Street North, Corozal Town, is a red-and-black Ford Mustang, L/P CZL-C-03935. It was also observed parked on the right hand side of the highway on the right side of the SUV, with damage to the left front side of its front bumper.

The drivers were not injured in the collision. Police have issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) to Arnold.
