Another conman on the loose

CrimeAnother conman on the loose

A 40-year-old clerk is out of $600 after she was ripped off by a conman posing as a landlord, who claimed that he was renting his house at the corner of 6th and St. Thomas Streets in Belize City.

The woman told police that at about 3:30 Thursday evening, June 19, she handed over $600 to the man, who promised to rent her the house, after which he was to hand over the key for the house and the receipt for the money she paid him.

Since then, the man has disappeared, and despite her many attempts to contact him, his whereabouts remain unknown. The woman, after making queries, was informed that the house was not the property of the man, and that he has nothing to do with the property.

On Saturday, June 28, she made an official report to the police, who began their investigation. She stated that up to the time of making the report, she still has not seen or heard from him.

Police have begun a search for the fake landlord.
