GeneralCops release 6 persons detained for Sept. 21 drug plane landing

ORANGE WALK TOWN, Fri. Sept. 25, 2020– Six persons who were detained in connection with the landing of a drug plane on a farm belonging to Noel Codd, a businessman of Santa Martha on the morning of Independence Day, have been released without charges.

Four men, reportedly laborers, were released on Wednesday, while Isaac Petkau, a Mennonite who is the owner of the bulldozer that police said was used to push the plane out of sight, was released yesterday evening, and today, Noel Codd, the owner of the farm on which the plane was found, was released after being detained for 5 days.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams had said that the bulldozer was used to push the plane into the bushes to conceal it, and that there was evidence that both men (Petkau and Codd) were present when the plane landed.

On Wednesday, Noel Codd, the farm owner, was taken to court on a charge of possession of prohibited ammunition. Police said that on Monday, while searching the farm, they found a single 7.62 round, a prohibited ammunition, and charged Codd.

Codd pleaded not guilty and was offered bail of $5,000 and ordered to return to court on October 27.

He was immediately re-detained, however, in relation to the investigation into the landing of the plane in an unregistered aerodrome.

Attorney Marcel Cardona, who represented Petkau, told the media on Wednesday that Petkau was told by police that if he gave a statement, he would not be charged, and that his bulldozer would be returned to him, and Petkau cooperated and gave the statement.

Nothing illegal had been found in the plane, and the crew had disappeared.
