Corozal man remanded for stabbing 2 deejays

CrimeCorozal man remanded for stabbing 2 deejays

The deejays’ sin was to turn off the music after the dance ended

One of two men who had been on the run from police on charges of the attempted murder of two deejays was arrested on Thursday and taken to court on Friday.

Police charged Jason Matura, 26, of Corozal, with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of use of deadly means of harm and two counts of dangerous harm. He was taken to the Corozal Magistrate’s Court on Friday, and was remanded to prison until February 11 next year.

Police said that Matura was one of two men who stabbed two deejays who were playing music and entertaining the crowd at a dance at the Andres Campos Civic Center located on 4th Avenue, Corozal Town.

The deejays were stabbed at about 3:35 Sunday morning, December 1, reportedly because they turned off the music at the end of the party.

Police say that Adrian Vasquez, 21, a deejay of Santa Barbara Street, San Ignacio Town, Cayo District, suffered stab wounds to the left side of the abdomen, and also sustained a cut over the right eye which caused swelling above the eye.

The second deejay, Alex Hernandez, 29, a resident of Sandhill, Belize District, was stabbed in the right upper chest area and in the right side of the lower back.

Police investigations revealed that after the music was turned off at the conclusion of the party, a crowd of about eight men were displeased. Two of the men, one of whom is recognized as Jason Matura, aka “Peso,” and the other of whom is known only as “Massam,” aka “Hammer,” allegedly attacked the deejays for no reason other than that they turned off the music.

Both deejays were taken to the Corozal Community Hospital, then later transported to the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk for further medical treatment. They were later discharged from the hospital.

Police are now seeking the public’s assistance in locating the second man, Massam, aka “Hammer.”
