COUGAR’S CLUB KEEP PACE WITH E-THREE STARS WITH 45-44 WIN OVER CHRIST FOR LIFE

SportsCOUGAR’S CLUB KEEP PACE WITH E-THREE STARS WITH 45-44 WIN OVER CHRIST FOR LIFE
Cougar’s Club kept pace with division leader E-Three Stars as they managed to squeeze past Christ for Life by the score of 45-44 on Saturday night in the 2009 Becol Basketball Championship, currently being played in San Ignacio Town. With the win, Cougar’s Club improved to (3-0), and now sits atop the senior division, a position being shared with E Three Stars. Kyle Pascascio was the high-man for Cougars, totaling 13 pts 7 rebs, while Jamie Gillett led Christ for Life with 14 pts 2 rebs. Other scores for the weekend had Sacred Heart College trouncing Christ for Life in junior play by the score of 61-26. Elvis Usher had a game high 30 pts for Sacred Heart, while Allen Garbutt could only muster 7 pts for Christ for Life. In other senior action, despite a game-high 28 pts from Lester Cadle, his team X-tra House Creepers nevertheless fell by the score of 57-51 to Christ for Life in senior action played on Friday night. Arthan Tucker and Mark Gentle scored 13 pts and 12 pts, respectively, in the win, and avoided losing two games over the weekend. In Over 35 play, Tuff E Nuff Rebels had their way with Belize Bank Veterans, defeating them by the score of 51-35. Darren Bovell and Rico Black led Tuff E Nuff with 17 pts and 15 pts, respectively, while Oscar Quewell and Cliff Armstrong led the Veterans with 10 pts each. In Saturday night’s opening games, Belmopan Trojans edged out Sacred Heart College by the score of 52-51 in U-21 action. Jarrell Velasquez scored 16 pts in the win, while Ian Lennan led Sacred Heart with 26 pts 10 rebs. In other Over 35 action, Belmopan Bandits got by Hydro Power by the score of 50-42 behind Clifford King 17 pts and Clive Sutherland 11 pts; meanwhile, for Hydro Power it was Joe Awe leading the way with 9 pts.

In games scheduled for this weekend, tonight, Cayo Ballers will take on St. Ignatius in U-18 play, followed by E-Three Stars going up against Perk Up Blazers in senior action. Meanwhile, the final game tonight will have Tuff E Nuff seeing action against Hydro Power in Over 35 action. On Saturday, three more games are slated to be played in the opening act. Sacred Heart College will face Hydro Power in U-21 play, followed by the game of the week which will put E-Three Stars taking aim at Cougar’s Club in senior action. The final game of the weekend will have Invaders facing Venus in other senior play.

Defending champs Aero Dispatch’s run at two in a row is in jeopardy tonight, as we go to press. Late word coming out of their camp is that last year’s big three, featuring Kirk “Chengo” Burgess and long time teammates Kelvin Gillett and Floyd “Bol” Talbert, will not be returning this year with the champs. This has certainly put a damper on Aero’s back to back aspirations, and, as a result, has now opened new possibilities for the other contenders, most notably BWS, who we are predicting will win it all. (To be continued in the next Wednesday issue of the Amandala.)
