BELIZE CITY, Mon. Dec. 14, 2020– The country of Belize is recording an average of 218 new COVID-19 infections daily, according to the reuters.com worldwide coronavirus tracker.
As of December 12, 2020, Belize has the highest number of active COVID-19 infections of all the CARICOM states, surpassing the number of cases in Jamaica and the Bahamas.  As of December 14, 2020, 9,377 total cases are confirmed in Belize; of those cases, 4,767 persons are actively infected. A total of 4,414 recoveries have been recorded to date.

Since our last update, 14 new deaths have been recorded, taking the number of total deaths to 197 persons, which equates to a fatality rate of 2.10%. According to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, a total of 135 males have died from COVID-19 complications, while 62 deaths of women infected with COVID-19 have been recorded.

According to data released today, Monday, December 14, a total of 82 new confirmed cases were found in a batch of 1,050 new samples. About 563 additional persons were tested. Two new deaths were recorded on that day.

A total of 32 active hospitalizations are recorded, with 3 of those persons being treated in an intensive care unit. A total of 93 recoveries were recorded for the day, and 70 new cases are under investigation.

On the previous day, Sunday, December 13, a total of 122 new confirmed cases were recorded from a batch of 408 samples.  A total of 200 persons were tested.

Three deaths were recorded on that day, Sunday — 2 males and 1 female. On that day, 270 new cases were under investigation, and a recovery rate of 46.5% was recorded.

On December 12, a total of 6 persons were admitted to intensive care units across facilities in Belize. Seven new fatalities were recorded —five males and 2 females. A total of 443 new persons were tested and 208 new cases were found from a batch of 741 tests. A total of 60 new recoveries were recorded.

Data released on December 11 recorded 2 new deaths. A total of 160 new cases were confirmed from a batch of 972 tests processed. A total of 78 recoveries were recorded.

On Monday, the Pfizer vaccine was approved by the FDA and the rollout of vaccinations began. Frontline workers are the first group being vaccinated; a critical-care nurse based in New York was the first among healthcare workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in the United States.
