A San Pedro woman is presently recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) after she was stabbed eight times in various parts of the body by a woman who attacked her in San Pedro Ambergris Caye on Friday night, January 3.
Police said that Beatriz Marroquin and her husband, Jose, were walking home that night when they both were attacked by a group of persons, which included a woman. The group began to throw stones at the Marroquins, hitting Jose in the head. They then fled the area.
As Marroquin and his wife were going to the San Pedro Police Station to report the attack, however, the woman who had been along with the group that stoned them, and a man, attacked them again. The man struggled with Jose, while the woman stabbed Beatriz.
During the altercation, Beatriz was stabbed multiple times, before the assailants fled the scene.
The Marroquins were both taken to the San Pedro Polyclinic, where Jose received treatment for the head injury he suffered, while his wife was rushed to the KHMH in a critical condition.
Police said that the motive for the attack is still unknown, and that they are actively searching for the Marroquins’ attackers.
