HighlightsCricket Corner – Big and excellent things happening for cricket in Belize!!

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Dec. 12, 2019– A pleasant time of the day to all cricket enthusiasts! The President of Belize National Cricket Association (BNCA), Dr. Roy Young and the governing body of the Association are highly pleased to inform you all of the continued progress of cricket in Belize. Female National Cricket Team By the time this news hits the streets at home and abroad, fourteen (14) female cricket players will be on their way to Costa Rica to play six games against three teams in the mid-season international tour (Female). According to stats (I stand to be corrected), this is the first time a female cricket team will ever be traveling abroad to participate in any tournament/games. We all wish them well and safe traveling to and from. The names of the  players, in no particular order are: Marva Anthony, Dian Baldwin, Atusha Reynolds, Georgia Joseph, Eileen Major, Cathleen Rhaburn, Yvette Reynolds, Shanna Robinson, Lin Smith, Arden Stephenson, Kristy Terry, Yolanda Thompson and Marsha Will. Two newly certified Level One umpires will accompany the team. They are:  Mr. Dwight Gabb and Mr. Glen Pook. Also traveling is Miss Daphne McFadzean as the Manager and Mr. Derick McFadzean as Coach. This initiative is being supported by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Belize National Cricket Association ( BNCA). The team is scheduled to return on the 16th December. It is expected that Belize will host the Central American Championship for females next year; and in May of next year, the team will be traveling to Atlanta, USA to participate in cricket matches. Belize is ranked 25th with the associate members. Male T20 National Team Male players of the T20 National team are now working out to get in readiness for the pathway in the T20 tournament in 2021. All interested individuals are asked to contact Mr. Michael Sobers at telephone 602-2134 and/or Mr. Conway Young at 622-9624 for more information. The next workout is scheduled for Sunday, the 15th December, at Lords Bank Cricket Field, starting at 10:00 a.m.Level One Umpire Training In November of this year, a Level One umpires training was held in Belize, where 14 individuals participated, and successful individuals were certified. Also, there were 5 individuals who attended the training for their enhanced knowledge in sport. Males and females took part in the training. With this training, Belize now has one of the largest number of certified coaches. Two experienced and excellent trainers, in the names of Kumar Rampat and Rhon Nurse, did such excellent, disciplined and productive session. Because of this training, Mr. Derick McFadzean will be traveling to Trinidad next week to further his knowledge in cricket (coaching/ umpiring). This opportunity was sponsored by Mr. Kumar Rampat and the BNCA. Thanks to the BNCA, Biltmore Plaza Hotel, Nature Resort , CWI and ICC for making the training possible and a success. Now, here is the big one! Meeting to discuss 2020 season On the 5th January, 2020 , there will be a meeting with all team captains and/or representatives at Burrell Boom Community Center at 10:00 in the morning. Matters to be discussed are playing conditions for the 2020 Sir Barry Bowen/Harrison Parks Cricket Competition. For a draft of these conditions, please feel free to contact 610-1375 or 615-8942. The 2020 season is expected to kick off with a Marathon on January 11th and 12th, with the regular competition starting on the 18th January. That’s all for now, folks. Enjoy your weekend. Respect to and for all.
