Cricket Corner: Excellence will continue

SportsCricket Corner: Excellence will continue

BELIZE CITY, Wed. May 6, 2015–Over the weekend in the Harrison Parks Cricket Competition 2015 under the auspices of the Belize National Cricket Association, only two games were played due to inclement weather.

In Zone One, Police damaged Bright Star, 216 to 77. For Police, Llewellyn “Luggy” Sutherland and Sylbert Martinez top scored with 40 runs each; and Austin Gillett and Annal Kanaujia took 3 wickets each. For Bright Star, Andy Dominguez scored 17 and took 3 wickets.  Excelsior won by default over Excellence, who did not show up.

In Zone Two, Wicked Eleven won over Sunrise, 166 to 74.  For Wicked Eleven, Travis Robinson scored 49, while Darwin Rhaburn and Walter Flowers took 4 wkts each. For Sunrise, Jermaine Baizar scored 12 runs, and Garreth Joseph took 3 wkts.

It was told to me by a credible person that Excellence had withdrawn from the competition. This was passed on to many concerned people and to some official members of the association. Glad to hear later that the team has decided to continue, based on principles. That is a very good move, so as not to be criticized. Now, with them coming back on board, it will make the competition in Zone One very interesting. Best of luck, boys!

Scheduled games for Saturday and Sunday are as follows:

In Zone One – Excellence vs Easy Does It at Double Head; Western Eagles vs Police at Belmopan; Excelsior vs Bright Star at Sandhill.

Zone Two – Brilliant vs Brave Union at Boom; Sunrise vs Berlan at Landing; Wicked Eleven vs Cashu Medicos at Lords Bank; Uprising vs Suga Boys at Isabella.

On Sunday, in back matches – Cashu Medicos goes to Crooked Tree; Brave Union goes to Isabella; Berlan goes to Carmelita; and Western Eagles goes to Lemonal.

On Sunday, likewise, the Under 15 continues in St. Paul’s Bank.

Have a fun filled weekend, all. Cricket, a gentleman’s game. Play it that way. Luck to all!
