Curfew violators abandon crashed vehicle and disappear

GeneralCurfew violators abandon crashed vehicle and disappear

SANTA ELENA, Cayo District, Fri. Apr. 17, 2020– At about 9:00 last night, after the curfew had gone into effect, police saw two men sitting in a pickup on a road in Santa Elena.

The officers, which had driven past the pickup, turned their car around and headed toward the pickup to question the men, but as soon as the men saw that the police vehicle had turned around and that the officers were heading toward them, they drove away, and there was a high-speed chase.

The men appeared to be determined not to be caught, since there is a $5,000 fine for curfew violations. The driver of the pickup, however, lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road and crashed into a chain-link fence. The two men then got out of the vehicle and sprinted away into the bushes, and disappeared.

Police searched the area but could not find the men.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that they have identified the men and are now looking for them.

Commissioner Williams said that during the chase, no shots were fired.
