Damion Bregal, 17, reported missing from Belmopan, found dead in Teakettle

GeneralDamion Bregal, 17, reported missing from Belmopan, found dead in Teakettle

TEAKETTLE, Cayo District, Thurs. Dec. 19, 2019– Damion Bregal, 17, a student of Cayo Street, Belmopan, left his home Friday morning, December 13, along with three friends, and when he did not return home, he was reported missing by his mother. His parents, other relatives and friends of his, and police then set about trying to find him.

On Tuesday, December 17, the search to find Bregal came to a sad conclusion when his decomposing body was found in some bushes off the Young Gyal Road in Teakettle by a man who noticed a bad smell permeating the environment.

The man went off the road to investigate, and made the horrendous discovery — a decomposing body lying on the ground in the bushes.

Police were immediately called and the area was secured so that an onsite autopsy could be carried out on the corpse to ascertain the cause of Bregal’s death.

Bregal’s aunt said that they were searching in the Belmopan area when they learned that a body had been found in Teakettle, and police later came to them and requested that they go and see the body.

An onsite autopsy was not carried out as had been planned, and on Wednesday, the body was brought to the Belize Medical University Science Center (medical facility) located on the Boom- Hattieville Road, Belize District, where the post-mortem exam was finally carried out.

His aunt went to the medical center, where she identified him. She said that there were cuts and chop wounds on her nephew’s body, and that he had been cruelly murdered.
So far no one has been arrested for Bregal’s death, and the motive for the murder is also unknown.

During the regular police press brief held this morning at the Raccoon Street Police Station, Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero said that several persons have been detained, but none of them have been arrested and charged yet.
