Interoffice basketball finals

The Finals of the Dangriga Town Council Interoffice Basketball Tournament were held last Friday at the Why-Not Island. Third place went to Belize Bank. First place went to Police, as they defeated Digicell-4G to gain the championship.

Father’s Day Over-40 cycling

This Sunday, there will be a big Over-40 cycle race in conjunction with Father’s Day. The Dangriga Amateur Cycling Association will be hosting its second Annual Over-40 Male Cycle Race, starting from Waruguma Shed on Ecumenical Drive at 10:30 a.m. and head to Silk Grass Village and back, with one lap around Dangriga Town and finish in front of Family City Supermarket. Registration per rider is only $5.00. First place $300.00; second $200.00; third $100.00. Station prizes will be provided for both going and coming. For more information, riders can contact Mr. Peter Morgan or Moses Lopez at 625-4022.

According to results from yesterday at the Why-Not Island in the Stann Creek District Sports Council Primary Schools Volleyball Regional tournament, representing the Stann Creek District next week Friday at Bird’s Isle in Belize City will be Sacred Heart Primary males and Holy Angels females.

Over-40 Father’s Day Football Marathon

This Sunday, in conjunction with Father’s Day, Griga Check Collection, in collaboration with Stann Creek Football Association, will be hosting the second Annual Over-40 Father’s Day Football Marathon at 1:00 p.m. at the Carl Ramos Stadium. Teams taking part will be North Side Selection from Griga, Southside Selection from Griga, Hopkins Over-40 Selection, Valley Over-40, Mango Creek Over-40 Selection. Frist place $500.00; second $300.00; third place $200.00.

Dangriga Boys & Girls U-15

The last regular season games in the Dangriga Boys and Girls U-15 Tournament, sponsored by DNK Internet Café, were played on Sunday, June 9, at the Carl Ramos Stadium. The first game was between Benguche and Umadagu. Benguche did not show up for their game, so automatically Umadagu got the 3 points for that game. In game 2 it was Wagiya, 5-0, over Foreshore, with 3 goals from Tyrone Cacho and 1 each from Krisean Lopez and Victor Garcia. Game 3 saw DYFA and Wagierale playing to a 1-1 draw; Donell Arzu scored for DYFA, while Santos Vargas got the goal for Wagierale. And in game 4, it was Silk Grass, 3-1, over Montise. Shaking the net for Silk Grass were Camron Aranda, Ernan Cocom and Lebi Pixabaj; while Latrell Swaso scored for Montise. A back match between Silk Grass and Foreshore ended 1-1, with Lebi Pixabaj hitting the target for Silk Grass, while Tyrone Flores got the goal for Foreshore.

Final regular season standings are: Wagiya – 21 points; DYFA – 16 pts; Wagierale – 13 pts; Silk Grass – 11 pts; Umadagu – 10 pts; Benguche – 6 pts; Foreshore – 4 pts; Montise – 0 pts.

After a break this weekend for Father’s Day, the top four teams will now advance to the playoffs, which are set to begin next Sunday, June 23, with Wagiya vs Silk Grass, followed by DYFA vs Wagierale. Then the following week, the two losers will play for 3rd place, and the two winners will play for the championship.
