Dickie, Bill, Belizean Beach, Ralph ?

EditorialDickie, Bill, Belizean Beach, Ralph ?

The first job that Mr. Lindo?s dredge, which is at the heart of the $60 million suit, was given was a contract estimated to be worth at least $150,000 to fill the eastern front of the Belizean Beach, which is near Mile 4 ? on the Western Highway outside of Belize City.

The contract came through then Minister of Housing, Richard ?Dickie? Bradley, who at the time had grandiose plans for Belizean Beach as a summer recreation spot for the Belize City poor, among other things. As far as we can see, Mr. Lindo did his job, but Mr. Bradley, as is his wont, had no follow through. The beach, with its filled in addition, remained sitting there after the dredging. Eventually, for reasons unknown to us, it was decided to put a police checkpoint at the Western Highway entrance to the beach, and then the beach was lost to even those who used it at night ? larcenous lovers.

In early 2004, the publisher of this newspaper decided to take a peek at the beach one morning on his way back to Belize City, and found the place desolate and deserted, a seeming waste of taxpayers? moneys. He consulted with his eldest son, Mose, who is the event organizer/promoter for KREM Radio, Belize City?s leading radio station, and asked him if it was possible to make anything of Belizean Beach to stage shows and provide entertainment/recreation for Southside residents who could not afford Chetumal, Ambergris Caye, Placencia, etc. Mose?s opinion was that the idea could work.

The publisher of this newspaper went to see his friend, the Prime Minister, in his Belize City home, and asked Mr. Musa if it was possible to lease the Belizean Beach, desolate and deserted as it was, for two or three years. At that point, around late January of 2004, the PUP had a little more than three years to go in its March 2003 mandate.

The Prime Minister told the publisher that such a matter would have to go to Cabinet. A few weeks later, Mr. Musa gave the go ahead, whereupon Evan X Hyde instructed his youngest son, Michael, to initiate a process whereby Kremandala Ltd. could lease the Belizean Beach for two or three years. The publisher heard nothing more of that matter.

Two months later, in April of 2004, the signing of the Carnival agreement by the Prime Minister would have changed whatever ball game was being played. The signing of the Carnival agreement, which included PUP big timers like Luke Espat and Lord Michael Ashcroft, meant that all the coast land from the Port of Belize south to Hattieville, immediately escalated in value. The Belizean Beach would have been gobbled up in PUP crony packages.

Not to worry, thought the publisher. It was just an idea, an idea to utilize a site where money had been spent and which was sitting there useless.

Four months after the original Carnival signing, in August of 2004, the attempt of 7 PUP Cabinet Ministers to remove Minister Ralph Fonseca as the dictator of Belize?s public finances took place. Mr. Fonseca considered the Amandala publisher to be one of the instigators of that G-7 initiative, and a renewed and expanded propaganda offensive against Evan X Hyde immediately took place in the GUARDIAN newspaper and on WAVE Radio.

For the publisher, what intrigued him at that specific time, beginning right after G-7, was the shrill scream from WAVE?s Joe Bradley day after day, ?Yu know weh do hin? ?E want Belizean Beach.? Remember now, this was a matter discussed between only two men in January of 2004. Former Cabinet members have confirmed that the matter of Belizean Beach was not brought to Cabinet. The idea died in the foetal stage. So how did a private discussion reach WAVE Radio?

It is known that one Barbara Johnson, a functionary in Minister Ralph Fonseca?s employ, faxed the documents involving the routine sale of a GOB Prado to the former chairman of the University of Belize, to WAVE radio station immediately the documents reached her desk. The former chairman of UB is, in fact, the publisher of Amandala.

During the four years the Amandala publisher was chairman of UB, the attack on UB and his chairmanship took place daily on WAVE and weekly in the GUARDIAN. This was not really serving the UDP?s purpose. It was more serving the purpose of the Hon. Ralph Fonseca, whose vision for UB was completely hostile to that of the Amandala publisher. So, he undermined the UB chairmanship of the publisher for four years plus. One notes that since a friend of Ralph?s became UB chairman six or seven months ago, no such attacks on him and/or UB take place on WAVE or in the GUARDIAN.

Since G-7, Minister Ralph Fonseca has dug up all he could find and made it available to the UDP for use against Kremandala. The most ridiculous accusation of all involved Belizean Beach, and what those WAVE outbursts did were confirm in the mind of the publisher of Amandala that he has a rich and powerful enemy in the PUP Cabinet who pays the UDP to do his work for him.

Slick.
